I graduated from the London Foot Hospital and School of Podiatric Medicine part of UCL in 1992 and worked in both the UK and Ireland as a Musculoskeletal Podiatrist.
After growing and then selling my own business in Ireland, from one to seven locations, and to high six figures in revenue – I now help others build healthcare businesses in Europe, the UK, in the US, South Africa, Australia and the Middle East.
I now help clinic owners all over the world to get more cash pay patients using tried and tested solutions.
Helping private practice owners just like you, to grow your practices and get more patients, that stay pay and refer for a lifetime. Using effective marketing and efficient practice management skills.
By working directly with you to establish plans and put techniques and strategies into place, to better market yourself and manage your practice to achieve your goals.
I'm originally from Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, and I trained, lived and worked in London for twelve years.
I moved back to Ireland in 2002 with my then young family. They're not so young now as you can see.
Working in London allowed me to concentrate on the specialist areas of biomechanics, gait analysis and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
After qualification I worked in both private practice and the NHS learning and attended multiple post graduate courses, talks and seminars to build my clinical skills. I completed Postgraduate Modules as part of the Masters in Podiatric Biomechanics at the University of Sheffield in 2003.
I've been lucky to have worked with some innovative practitioners in the fields of sports medicine, orthopedics, physiotherapy and chiropractic. This has allowed me to work in many roles throughout my career including in professional and Olympic sport.
I loved treating running related, lower limb, postural and spinal biomechanical pathologies. At one stage in London my clinical MSK case load was exclusively runners, skiers and cyclists for assessment, and functional rehabilitation.
I have been fortunate to learn from some of the world's leading expert and this has taken me professionally across the world, including to the USA, Australia and mainland Europe.
I started my podiatry business back in Ireland in 2002 with little money, minimal business experience and poor marketing and leadership skills. Looking back I wonder how I even manage to survive the early years.
In less than 7 years I grew that business from a single clinic in a rural Irish town to a multi-clinic, multi-therapist, private pay practice that at one stage served more than 2300 patients per month.
Many of the life lessons as a leader and as a business owner, were learned while growing these practices.
These healthcare businesses gave me a freedom to indulge in my many passions; gardening, fishing, sailing and supporting local and International rugby.
But more importantly it meant I never had to miss any of my children's school events or family gatherings. I drove my kids to school every morning and spent time with them evenings and weekends.
The business was planned to allow me to have this lifestyle.
In 2013 I was able to take six weeks off from the business (on top of my normal 8 weeks holidays) to sail from South Africa to Australia, across the Southern Ocean as part of the Clipper Round the World yacht race.
This was an epic, NEVER to be repeated, 4700 nautical mile (8800+km) adventure across one of the remotest and roughest oceans on the planet.
I've been fortunate to also have been able to mentor, train and work alongside multiple podiatrists and therapists as my clinics grew. Many of whom have now gone on to open successful health practices for themselves.
We've looked after students as part of their final year placements from Ireland's Podiatry School at the National University of Ireland Galway, since it opened in 2008.
I have volunteered at multiple Special Olympic events including the Irish National games in Limerick University in both 2010 and 2014.
The International Special Olympics Fit Feet program offers screenings to evaluate ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics, and proper shoe and sock gear to participating athletes.
Fit Feet helps Special Olympics athletes "step lively on the playing field, and in everyday life".
justinblakemedia.com is the online training site that I've now developed as a podiatrist to deliver healthcare business education, marketing and practice system support.
